For the final issue of SVLLY(wood) volume.1, we explore the ‘beauty and brutality’ of women in prisons and the politics of captivity in cinema with issue.3: INCARCERATION. In this political moment, under the shadow of ramped up I.C.E roundups, heightened awareness of the prison industrial system, and increasing population of inmates in American prisons, there still seems to be a general lack of contemporary cultural studies surrounding the visual nature of imprisonment and how it pertains to women. We're eager to remedy this growing concern by curating another special dispatch of film criticism's best emerging voices that seek to uncover celluloid's legacy of women behind bars and the radical creatives revolutionizing culture behind the scenes.

We make sure to make all our content available online to stay true to our democratized ethos alongside upholding the archival legacy of print journalism. You can read the essays, interviews, and Q&A's included in issue.3: INCARCERATION below but also encouraged to buy our print issues, and/or donate to our Patreon or Cash.Me in order to keep this subversive, ad-free, indie publication alive!
